WHAT IS THE LANTERN FESTIVAL

Celebrated for many hundreds of years, The Lantern Festival aims to promote reconciliation, peace, and forgiveness. The holiday marks the first full moon of the new lunar year and the end of the Chinese New Year (see Lunar New Year).

At Pymble Public School, The Lantern Festival is the first big Event for 2024, bringing together the community and welcoming new families.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • 5:15pm - Jazz Band

    See our wonderful Jazz Band perform.

  • 5:45pm - Tai Chi

    Join local Tai Chi master Ben Tanny for a family friendly Tai Chi session with Dragon moves.

  • 6:30pm - Dragon Kids Singing Group

    Watch the Dragon Kids perform beautiful Chinese songs.

  • 7:30pm - Lion Dance

    Enjoy a traditional Lion Dance with fabulous costumes, music and professional performers.

Entertainment is free of charge and will be located on the COLA outside the school office.

ACTIVITIES

  • Lantern Making and other craft

    Location: Pymble Public School Hall

    Make and decorate a paper lantern complete with a battery powered candle. You can also create a zodiac calendar spinner or find your zodiac sign and do some colouring in.

  • Photo Booth

    Location: Library Wall

    Pose with your friends and family with fun Year of the Dragon props. You will receive an instant print to take home.

  • Wishing Tree

    Location: next to Front Office

    Make a wish for 2024 by writing it on a red banner and then tying it to the Wishing Tree.

Dragon Tail Hair Salon - Jumbo Hair Brading

Enjoy the Lantern Festival celebrations looking your best. Come to the Dragon Tail Hair Salon and we will give you a fabulous colourful hair style! Children and adults alike are welcome.

EAT AND DRINK

Choose from sushi, freshly cooked dumplings, delicious fried rice or chicken skewers. All food is prepared with fresh and delicious ingredients by members of the PPS community. And if you’re feeling thirsty, head to the Ice and Fire stall for cold drinks and colourful ice cones.

VOLUNTEER

Events like this rely on many volunteers working together. Please volunteer to help out on the day. It’s a fabulous way to contribute to the event, make new friends and have fun.
